The ConferencePublic Health continues to face many challenges in carrying out daily mission of protecting the public’s health. In the past year we have seen threats to our food supply, potential risk for transmission of drug resistant tuberculosis and many other communicable disease concerns that we must handle daily. This year’s CACDC Conference – Emerging and Re-Emerging Microbial Threats: Challenges for the 21st Century, focuses on many topics ripped from the headlines. Each of the topics to be discussed has a potential to heavily impact the health of the communities thus requiring prompt public health intervention. Featured Speaker We are pleased to have John Jereb, MD, Medical Epidemiologist, Field Services and Evaluation Branch, Divisions of Tuberculosis Elimination, NCHHSTP, CDC as our featured speaker. John is with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and will provide very timely and important information on MDR and XDR tuberculosis and the recent airline situation. CEUs Continuing Education credit for RNs is provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 2709 for 6 contact hours 10/25/07 and 2 contact hours on 10/26/07. The Program Included in our discussion of food safety we will learn if Spinach is really as good for us as we thought. This presentation will include issues of interest to Public Health laboratories as well as Environmental Health and other units that work to protect the public’s health. Working with the press and utilizing their resources to get our message out has become an all important skill. Helpful guidelines for involving the press in helping us get our health messages out to the community will be discussed.
