The CIDER Summer Intensive Program, June 19-21, 2007 is a 3-day intensive, interdisciplinary program covering the core knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for public health professionals to detect, investigate, mitigate, and respond to a public health infectious disease emergency. The focus of the 2007 program will be on "Building Bridges: Public Health and Private Sectors Responding to Pandemic Influenza". We will be partnering with the California Department of Health Services, ORC Western Occupational Safety and Health Group, and private industry on this important event.
The impetus for this theme comes from the recognition that a widespread public health emergency, such as pandemic influenza, will involve all sectors of society. Small and large businesses and organizations will need to work with their local health departments in executing a containment strategy, minimizing employee morbidity and mortality, and implementing continuity of operations. Health departments need to learn how to effectively engage local businesses and organizations in preparedness and response planning. Additionally, community-based organizations that service special needs and vulnerable populations need to prepare to survive disasters in order to continue serving their clients during times of greatest need.
The program will feature keynote speakers, concurrent breakout sessions, and round table discussions focused on State of the State, Business to Business Continuity, and Employee Health.
